2018 Conference Sessions

Henry Glickel, CPC, CERS
CERS Immersion

*Attendees must pre-register for the workshop. Registration fee: NAPS members, $1,000 / Non-members, $1,500.

The prerequisite for CERS is to hold either a NAPS CPC or CTS credential that is current and has been renewed in the last year with NAPS if earned after 1995, or an American Staffing Association CSP credential that is current. The first eighteen CERS credentials were awarded to seasoned veterans who recognized a need to become more closely aligned with their clients in a consultative role at the 2006 and 2007 NAPS National Conferences.

Many of you have heard the following: "If our clients are meeting to determine staff upgrades, new hires, developing strategic growth plans and we are not invited to sit at the table, then we have not established a value add relationship!" There is clearly a screaming demand for our profession to become the guide in making our clients aware of the "Impending Crisis" that The Herman Group and Danny Cahill spoke about a number of years ago, is here. We must step up and help our clients become "Lean and Meaningful," become an "Employer of Choice," and finally, who better than our profession to guide our clients in "Keeping Good People."

We have heard the term "on-boarding" and once again, who better than us to assist in a smooth transition and mutual performance progress monitoring as we "find, deliver and retain" the talent our clients will need to hold and grow their market positions.

Our instructor for this immersion class during the NAPS 2018 Annual Conference is Henry Glickel, CPC, CERS - trainer, search practitioner, and owner of Sales Recruiters and Barclay Personnel.

Frank Burtnett & Josh Kirkpatrick
CPC/CTS Immersion

*Attendees must pre-register for the workshop. Registration fee: NAPS members, $300 / Non-members, $600.

NAPS Conference participants seeking their Certified Personnel Consultant (CPC) or Certified Temporary Staffing-Specialist (CTS) credentials should consider the live Certification Immersion Class that will be taught by Josh Kirkpatrick, NAPS Legal Consultant and Frank Burtnett, NAPS Education and Certification Consultant on Sunday, November 4, 2018 from Noon to 5pm. The Immersion Class will emphasize the "critical knowledge points" associated with the laws governing employment transitions in America and prepare students for the paper and pencil certification exams that will be administered at the end of the class. More than 1,600 staffing professionals have earned their CPC and/or CTS certificate taking the Immersion Class route.

Karen Schmidt & Jeff Kaye
Shawshank Search and Staffing Owners Workshop

*Attendees must pre-register for the workshop. The workshop is for Firm Owners/Managers ONLY. Registration fee: NAPS members, Free / Non-members, $100. Workshop registration must be in conjunction with a conference registration.

Attend this manager/owner workshop and learn how to gradually create what you want the same way Andy Dufresne achieved what he wanted. The movie Shawshank Redemption is a perfect metaphor for our business. Many people talk about what they want but few are willing to prioritize working on their business as much as they do a typical search for a client. At times, that prioritization requires a slow, steady chipping away all while having faith that the chipping is leading to a greater purpose. Attend this workshop if you not only want to learn the best practices for growing the firm you want but also to dig into the limiting beliefs, stories we tell ourselves and rationalizations we use to justify the gap between what we want to build versus where we focus our time.

The workshop will be a blend of presentations from Jeff Kaye and Karen Schmidt of Next Level Exchange as well as facilitated roundtable discussions on best practices for growing a firm. We will also facilitate exercises designed to get true clarity on what you want, what it will take to build it, the risks to do so versus those in not doing so, and develop a specific plan of action.

It does not matter if you think you want to build a small team or a large firm. There is a gap between what you want and where you are at. This workshop will focus on figuring out exactly what you need to do to close that gap. The timing for doing so and firm you desire will only be a function of your desire, capability, people, market conditions, and capital.

We have studied thousands of firms and leaders of recruiting firms. Attend and learn the best of the best in the following categories:

· Hiring and training the best and brightest
· Coaching, motivating, managing, inspiring, and leading them to their fullest potential
· Creating a culture of accountability, performance, connectivity and collective vision
· Utilizing technology and marketing communications tools to secure more clients, candidates, and recruiters
· Compensation, operational programs and team structures designed for long-term retention
· Balancing and prioritizing roles as producer, leader, and owner

AND ONE FINAL SESSION WHERE ALL QUESTIONS NOT IN ANY OF THESE CATEGORIES WILL BE COVERED. When you sign up, send an email with any questions you would like addressed to karen@nextlevelexchange.com. Questions can be submitted until September 28, 2018.

Workshop Takeaway(s)

If you are looking for a program to help you get clarity on what you really want, what it will take to get there, and how best to go about doing it then this is the workshop for you!

Lies We Tell Ourselves

Most would agree that the things worth having and achieving in life do not come easy. When the going gets tough, we have a tendency to rationalize why we are not succeeding in our pursuits:

“I don’t have enough time.”

“It just wasn’t in the cards.”

“I decided it wasn’t really what I wanted.”

“It is not the right time, I will pursue when I have more balance.”

As leaders, we are not immune to this rationalization - the use of feeble but seemingly plausible arguments either to justify something that is difficult to accept or to make it seem ‘not so bad after all'. We all know that it is easier to blame external factors instead of blaming yourself, and this habit can be one of the toughest to break, but is a true necessity for a high level of self-awareness. Join us as we discuss the top lies that leaders and managers tell themselves, and what you can do with each lie to break through to results, not excuses!

Session Takeaway(s)

How managers and leaders can break through to results, not excuses!

The Independent Worker” Proposal: Finding a Middle Ground Between Employee and Independent Contractor

Rapid technological development and the changing nature of work are straining the capacity of traditional employment and independent contractual relationships. The rise of the "gig” or “on-demand” economy offers former "employees" the opportunity to decide for themselves how to structure their personal lives in relation to income-generating activity. As these workers leave traditional employment behind, however, courts and legislatures are being asked to resolve disputes over the loss of legally mandated protections and benefits associated with employee status. Recently, policy experts have proposed a "third way," a new legal category called "the independent worker" for those who occupy this gray area between employees and independent contractors. These workers would qualify for many, but not all, of the benefits associated with employee status. Our speakers will discuss the outlines and merits of this concept as a means to accommodate the future of relationships at work, as well as cover current issues involving independent contractors and best practices.

Session Takeaway(s)
